There’s Been 180 Days of School, It’s True…
So now I must recollect and digress about all of YOU!
Written by Miss Mecka for her 2013-2014 bunch of Journeyers!
Let’s begin with Michael who often says, “I don’t care.”
yet, I don’t find this believable, but rather unfair
Because once you get him on topic he’s quick to analyze and debate
even if occasionally he doesn’t write it down or forgets to put the date!
Now Sean likes to move around the room quite a lot
except when he’s on the yellow yoga ball, which keeps him in one spot
A keenness towards History and Geography are the core of his traits
with a willingness to always assist me and his classmates
Mr. Nishaan, I must say, does not like to hide
any of his thoughts, questions or reminders on the inside
As a result, I don’t think he’d do too well as a mime
keeping mum’s the word and not getting to announce “It’s snack time!”
If Joseph was given the choice of who he’d want as a teacher
I bet it'd be LeBron James instead of a science researcher or creature
However, he is certain when a video he saw was made by me
and jumps to reach the references I put in the room for everyone to see
At first Alexis had somewhat of a disorganized style
But she discovered The 6 Traits and now writes in order mile after mile
I know she loves elephants and giving hugs that’s for sure
along with designing, singing, dancing and creating poetry that is so pure
At times Shannon visits “never”land when she wants to explain
what she has yet to do online, in a notebook or the ideas running around in her brain
As such,, she takes on my challenges complaint-free
while stating enthusiastically, “There’s no place I’d rather be!”
Into the stories Taliyah sure goes
when she’s reading, writing or organizing her prose
Her characters, settings and plots usually have an “ah ha!” kind of twist
And let’s not forget that flying off to Paris is on top of her list
Sometimes I have to ask Liliana to use her voice and shout
but she is an independent explorer without a doubt
One of her three notebooks is always in hand
waiting for the next fact, fiction or Thoughtsicle to happen unplanned
If you ask Roopindar what she thinks about this fact or that
she likes a magician pulling a memory, reminder or text connection out of her hat
Her smile is confirmation that what I said was very relatable
while her written pieces express her passion to be creatable
The Kidblog Master would have to be Haley
because she enjoys writing about her experiences and posts almost daily
She was the last to be hired as one of our Travel Planners
But one of the first to use her Thumbs Up manners
Matthew uses idioms and can be a very figurative thinker
yet not a day goes by when he doesn’t want to tinker
He doodles and Googles topics that come to mind
And is always impressed by what he may see or find
A buildup of confidence I’ve seen in Olivia
who’s now been doing independent research on the country of Bolivia
She was the first to earn her own learning tools back
and I notice that everyday she has fruit as her snack
I must admit Vinnie has got the beat
tapping his fingers, pencils or any object he finds so neat
It may sometimes take a moment to get him deeper thinking
but then he can elaborate on an experience without even blinking
And lastly there’s Ahdaf having a last name with Z
But when it comes to questioning, commenting and repeating the first he will be
He shares many cool experiments from home and transfers its knowledge to school
as well as exclaiming how reading the NEWSELA articles were so cool
Alas, there’s me, your teacher Miss Mecka
with my reference-filled room, which I know you might have first said, “What the Hecka?”
Well, I want you to know it was all put there with care
to make you “try it out” or “give it a go” as you venture through your learning career.
So thank you for making practice possible and informing, involving and inspiring yourself and me. No go yonder into summer and let your mind, body and belongings be free ;)
