Did The Matter's Amount Change?

Regarding behavior and respect toward how we use our learning tools, I was slightly disappointed. However, I figured the best way to solve this situation is to change it into science inquiry.  So, I took the "matter" in both hands and asked students to write down their response to, "Did the amount of matter in the whole eraser change?"

Here is documentation of some choices and reasoning.  They were disappointed that I didn't give them the "right" answer right away because I am the teacher.    Reason being...I want them to ponder about it some more and compare it to other similar situations, and of course use their matter property vocabulary to help clarify any confusions on their own first.  Then we'll experiment and make conclusions about it all throughout the rest of the week.
