Impressing Authors

"That's an Onomatopoeia!"
"There's some alliteration!"
"Miss Mecka tells us not to erase when we write down our ideas too!"

Our 3rd Grade Journeyers were spot on listeners and impressed Laura Sassi, author of children's picture book Goodnight, Arkwith their 6 Traits of Writing power.  She came to visit our school today and spoke with us on how she goes about deciding on an idea, creating a "place" for it to happen and then being patient and waiting, waiting, waiting for publishing day.

As she read her book she asked questions to get us recognizing and realizing all the design and particular planning that a picture book requires of the author and illustrator-  words, texts, funny bits- to make it happen.  This reminded me, and hopefully the students, of our Journeys story What Illustrators Do?  that took us through the process of an illustrator's job in a humorous way.

So the conclusion in our ventures so far is that life makes you read and write!
