This week as we read, write and do learning across the curriculum, the focus is on how we use transitions and verbs to effectively communicate our messages. In other words (an example of a transition), what gets us literally and figuratively moving through a text and in oral speaking. In your Go To Folder you will find more examples of these time, feelings and location transitions, as well as lots of words to choose from to give more exact meanings in your writing pieces.
In Math, we're spiraling back to understanding the value in PLACE VALUE and why we group our digits to create numbers, which give meaning to units. By understanding this EVERY 10 WE GROUP AGAIN concept, doing our algorithms and operations will make more sense and come naturally. I encourage you to do practices and take a look at some video guides in our Math Talk tab.
Science has got us moving with force and motion and how one causes another, but INERTIA is the big controller of it all and more. There are lots of references and visual aids on our Science Inquiries>Physical>Force and Motion tab. We will also be moving into understanding how energy and forms like magnetic, light and heat create objects and people to do work (not the kind we usually think of though).
Our goal in Health and Social Studies this week is to explore what physical features are and how they impact the way a community lives and the necessity and reasons for getting SLEEP. As always, continue to study and follow our text response and math open ended rubrics and 6 traits writing scoring guides so you are familiar with how I assess the skills or strategies we are continually practicing. Our new In Review tab is updated as often as possible of lesson visuals.
Lastly, Quick Quizzes in our Practice Makes Possible Books may be given at any time on phonics, core word spellings (located on your desk and in the Word Play tab), mathematical operations, and current or previous subject contents to keep students aware of and reviewing their progress and mastery of them.
